Grace and I actually went to high school together, ironically enough. She reached out to me last November for a couple session while I was back in Kansas City visiting family for the holidays. I said YAS of course, so we booked it and all was set. Or so I thought… 😉
A few days later Grace’s mom messaged me on Facebook to let me know that Mason was planning to propose in a few days, and that Grace had just unknowingly booked her own engagement session. I love being in on super big secrets, especially the love kind. So naturally I screamed in excitement. I kept my cool while emailing Grace and when I asked her what she loved most about Mason, this was her answer:
“I love love love his smile and laugh! Either of those two just automatically put a smile on my face no matter what. If I get the chance to see the smile for the rest of my life WOW. I would be soooo happy.”
YEAH. Cue the waterworks because I knew that she WOULD get to see that smile for the rest of her life… 😉
For their engagement session we met up a couple of days after Christmas in downtown Kansas City, and I won’t lie… it was SUCH a hard photography challenge for me. Having just moved to Hawaii this past year, I had grown accustomed to warm weather and unlimited options of mountains, oceans, and trails galore. I found myself with the challenge of shooting an engagement session in the dead of winter (it was legit 8 degrees outside) in a city vastly lacking ocean views haha. I knew shooting outside would be nearly impossible and just plain cruel, so I remembered a venue in downtown KC that was my twinkly light DREAM called The Bauer. I called them up and luckily we were able to shoot there that day. Just like that Grace and Mason’s 8 degree winter engagement session became the Pinterest-worthy, whimsical, fairytale session of my dreams. I’m shooting their wedding later this year, and if their engagement session looked like THIS I can’t wait to see what we dream up on their big day!
You might wanna sit back and sip champagne while viewing. It’s that good. 😉
