I believe things in life happen for a reason. Meeting Matt and Madi and photographing their love story was purely meant to be. Here’s a bit of their story:
These two met in high school and became high school sweethearts. Cut to the present: they’ve been married for just about 4 years now, but most of that has been long distance. Matt is based in Hawaii for the Army, and Madi has been doing her residency for med school in Boston. For me, it was so humbling to meet another military couple, who understands the struggle of long distance. Yet, if you met them in person, you’d have no idea their life circumstances weren’t the most ideal. These two are some of the most cheerful people I’ve ever met in my life. There is an unspeakable joy that follows them, and they had me dying of laughter during our sunrise session at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in downtown Kansas City.
I’m so encouraged by people who live life to the fullest, no matter what discouraging circumstances they are going through. I can’t even image going so long without seeing my husband, so Matt and Madi’s strength and love for each other is so inspiring to me. They both flew into Kansas City at 1:30am the night before our session, yet there they were at 5:30am the next morning all smiles. Our session was the first time they had seen each other in 6 months, and I think that had a big impact on the way I was able to capture their love. I may even consider telling future couples to take a long break from each other before their session with me, because HOT DANG these two were on fire! I’m kidding… kind of! đ
We became fast friends during our session, which I’m so thankful for, because it turns out Madi is moving (finally!) to Hawaii to be with her husband around the same time that Andrew and I are moving there! Can you say Hawaiian buddies? UM yes. Matt even taught me how to do the shaka hand gesture correctly in preparation for our move. Bless him.
I’m seriously so grateful God put these two beautiful souls in my life when He did. I hope you enjoy viewing their session, and I hope their love for each other comes across on your screen so vividly.
P.S. Look forward to seeing these two again in the near future on the blog, but next time with a Hawaiian background! You KNOW I’m got letting these two babes leave sight of my camera once we land in Hawaii!
