matt + madi | oahu hawaii sunrise anniversary session part 1 | hawaii destination wedding photographer

Matt and Madi have become the Johnny Depp to my Tim Burton. Meaning you're going to be seeing a lot of them in my portfolio. ;)

I met them back in May this year when they hired me to do a couple shoot in Kansas City the weekend Madi graduated from Med school. You can view that session HERE. After her graduation she was finally able to move to Hawaii to be with Matt. He had been stationed there with the Army, and on their 4 year anniversary they were finally able to live together after a long stretch apart.

When my husband and I found out we were moving to Hawaii too, I told Madi, and we immediately began making plans to explore, hang out, and do more photoshoots (obviously!). Madi and I have become fast island buddies since we've both moved to Oahu.

Her and Matt's anniversary was this June, so they hired me again to do their annual anniversary session. For every anniversary shoot they have always dressed similarly to their wedding attire: Matt in his uniform and Madi in a white dress. Madi loved the look of the lava formed layered rocks on the East side of Oahu, so we chose Lanai Lookout at sunrise for our location. And as per usual, Hawaii did NOT disappoint. The view was absolutely breathtaking to watch as we wandered all over the rocks, and eventually made our way over to a secluded beach nearby.

We shot their anniversary session in two parts: half in the morning at sunrise and half on the west side of Oahu at sunset. So I'm splitting their session up into two blog posts. What you see below is our sunrise half. I'll be posting their playful beach sunset session tomorrow, so check back for that!

Enjoy, enjoy these two playful and giggly lovers.
