This past October I visited New York City for a photography workshop, and decided to stay in the city an extra week after the workshop was over to explore and shoot. Upon hearing I’d be on the East Coast, Dani reached out to me about doing a couple session for no other reason than to – and i quote – “have pictures to hang on our walls that aren’t our us in our wedding clothes.” I was down in a heartbeat. Kevin and Dani live in Boston, so we started brainstorming where in New York City would be the perfect background to capture their love story. They both used to live in Los Angeles, and their frequent date spot was the Getty Museum. Dani told me they were total goofballs and loved art and science, so what better location than a museum in New York City? We decided to go to the biggest and best art museum the city has to offer – The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This session is so different than my norm. My element is in the wild outdoors, so getting the opportunity to shoot in a museum was a super fun challenge. For one, I’m a very loud and energetic person. I use that energy to bring the spontaneity and passion out of my couples. So being in an environment where we had to be calm and whisper was a huge challenge for this ball of fire. 😉 There were multiple times I whisper yelled, “OKAY NOW MAKEOUT.” Second, it was so much fun to try and create my art, my images, while these two were interacting with physical works of art themselves.
Dani and Kevin were totally in their element; they were so goofy and playful holding hands, interacting with the sculptures, and laughing the whole time. We ended the session heading out to grab some shots in Central Park in the rain. I couldn’t have asked for a more silly and wonderful couple to enjoy this rainy day in the city with. Enjoy these two silly cuddle bugs!
