If you’re anything like me, the second you get your photos back from a session with a professional photographer you probably freak out and post them all over social media, right?! I know it’s not just me….
As a photographer I always do everything in my power to make my client’s experience the best it can be throughout the entire process, but once I deliver the photos to them, my job is somewhat over. That’s why I wanted to share with you some helpful advice I’ve learned over the years on what to do immediately after you receive your photos. They are in your hands at that point, and my job is to help you make the absolute most out of your photography experience! So, here we go! Here’s my recommended suggestions for the top 3 things to do immediately after your photographer delivers your photos to you.
I can’t stress enough how vital this is. You’ve spent good money for these precious memories to be documented, and the last thing you ever want is for them to be lost forever. For my clients, I make sure to keep their photos up on my gallery delivery site for at least 1 year after their wedding or session. However, after that it’s up to the client to make sure their photos stay safe and protected. I highly recommend the very first thing you do after receiving your photos is to back them up multiple times on different devices. In the past I’ve learned (the hard way) about technology being fickle and letting you down, so having your photos stored on multiple hard drives or flash drives in a safe, dry space is key!
In this digital age, it’s so easy to let our photographs live on our screens, on our profile pictures and timelines, but the most beautiful part of photography is the ability to keep your memories in physical form. Printing your photos is a incredible way to hold onto your photos forever. Hang them on your wall, frame them, or put them in an album. I promise you, years down the road you’re going to want to show your grandchildren the photos from your wedding day in print, not on a screen.
(And because I like you guys so much and know the value of printing your memories, I’ve teamed up with Parabo Press to give you 20% off all print orders for this month of December. Just head right here to Parabo.Press and use the code 20DEC at checkout!)
After you receive your photos, take two minutes to tell your photographer what you think! Look I get it, oftentimes when you get your photos back you’re so excited and responding back maybe just slips your mind! Us photographers get SO nervous when we send out galleries. We’ve put our heart and soul into creating this art for you, and we want you to love it as much as we do. When we don’t hear back from you we immediately think something is wrong (even if it isn’t!) Sending a quick response email letting us know you love them makes any photographer happy dance, trust me! 😉
This one is a bonus, because you don’t HAVE to do it, but if you do, it would mean the absolute world to your photographer. Reviews not only help our business’s validity and growth, but they let us know what part of our process is working well and what could be better! Getting feedback from my clients is my FAVE, and I don’t just mean the typical “She was great. Hire her!” The reviews that help me the most and make my heart skip a beat are the ones that go into detail and describe how they felt during the whole process – from emailing, to planning, to the shoot, and finally to the final product: the photos. If you truly loved the entire process of working with your photographer, please let them know by reviewing them! They will be forever grateful!
