YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE HOW I MET MY HUSBAND
This particular story is about a girl from Kansas who fell in love with a boy from Kenya. Daniel came to Kansas on a running scholarship and met Miriam at their local church. Kansas was the groundwork for their love to grow, but Kenya is where they said yes to each other forever. Daniel took Miriam to Kenya to share his culture, his family traditions, and where he grew up with her. They first went on a safari, and then while with the people of the Masai Tribe, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Soon after they asked me to be their photographer, and I was stoked to say the least. I took their engagement photos last autumn which you can see right HERE.
Cut to this past Sunday, June 18, 2017, they got married at the Cider Gallery in Lawrence, Kansas in front of close family and friends. Miriam has such excellent taste; her wedding was beautifully designed with summery garden florals, glamorous details, and lots of sparkles. She looked absolutely stunning in her rose-toned, flowy bridal gown. When I suggested we take her and Daniel’s bridal portraits in a nearby greenhouse they were up for the adventure. It makes me so happy whenever my couples trust me when I suggest something a little outside of the norm, and their willingness to drive a few minutes away from their venue and frolic in a colorful greenhouse garden definitely paid off. They are my favorite images from the day.
But speaking of favorites, there were two moments during their big day that made me smile. The first one was during their first look when Daniel turned around to see his bride for the first time. This huge smile just came across his face and he immediately reached in for a hug. The second moment that was so unique and special was when Daniel’s family presented Miriam’s family with gifts during a special Kenyan celebration. You could see the love and joy on everyone’s faces as two families from vastly different cultures became one. It was beautiful.
I’m so honored I was able to be a part of these two’s lovely day. It was a wonderful representation that love knows no color or culture. Love can span continents; it can bring together two different people, while also reminding us that no matter your color, culture, or background, love is a uniting force unlike none other.
